Ofcom has now published the first set of regulations under the UK’s Online Safety Act.
The focus is on protecting children from harmful content (which is absolutely the right goal), but there’s a knock-on effect here for small and medium-sized businesses.
If your business has a website, runs a platform, or uses digital content that could be accessed by under-18s (even unintentionally) it’s worth paying attention. You could be expected to take steps such as:
- Making sure underage users can’t access harmful content
- Reviewing how content is recommended or displayed
- Having clear processes to report and remove flagged material
For many businesses, the tricky part isn’t agreeing with the rules, it’s having the time, knowledge, or internal resources to stay on top of them. That’s where outsourcing your IT, cyber security, and compliance to an IT professional can really help.
Cyber security providers, including HJS Technology, will make sure that your digital setup is not only secure and functional, but also aligned with evolving regulations like this one. It’s one less thing for you to worry about – giving you time to focus on running your business.
If you’re not sure whether your business is affected, or what to do next, give us a call or enter your details here. Finally, here’s a link to the Ofcom regulations, if you’d like to take a look: Online safety – Ofcom
